A walk from Raffles Place to Chinatown

On this one fine-nothing-to-do Saturday, we decided to explore more in Singapore.
The first place that came into our mind was Raffles Place, a place with all sky high office buildings, a place where we never step into.

Stepping out of Raffles Place MRT station, we walked towards The Fullerton Hotel, a famous luxury five star hotel. It was originally known as The Fullerton Building and also General Post Office Building.

A very grand interior of the hotel where many couples choose to take their pre-wedding photos.

Four postboxes miniature near the entrance of the hotel, well, there are more than one entrance, not sure if it is near the main one.

Coming out from The Fullerton Hotel, we crossed the road towards the Merlion.
Yes, the famous Merlion, the personification of Singapore, a place to show that you've been to Singapore.

Marina Bay Sands.

On the other side of the river, are the Singapore flyer and Marina Bay Sands.

On our way to Chinatown, we walked pass Far East Square, a heritage preservation project.

Far East Square

There are some restaurants, pubs and shop houses there.
However, many of the shops were closed on weekends, probably open during weekdays to cater the need of office workers nearby.

Far East Square

There is also a musuem there, The Fuk Tak Chi Musuem. Fuk Tak Chi Temple is the oldest temple in Singapore, currently being converted to a musuem. Unfortunately, it was close for upgrading works that day.

Thian Hock Keng, built in year 1840 is one of the oldest Hokkien temple in Singapore.
The structure of the temple was assembled without nails.
Unfortunately (AGAIN), it was closed and we were unable to visit this architectural masterpiece.

Ann Siang Park

An interesting wall art opposite of the entrance of Ann Siang Hill Park.
Too tired to explore the park, will be back for you some other day.

Wall decoration in a small alley.

Attracted by this cute little sign board in the alley, a new restaurant, I guessed.

Walked pass this shop near Hong Lim square and was attracted by the noodles.
We decided to give it a try to fill out tummy.

It was good! The noodles were springy, we both loved it!
For your information, it opens from 8am to around 7pm, close on alternate Wednesday.

Finally, we reached Chinatown.
That day was the opening of Chinatown Mid Autumn Festival.
20,000 lanterns were lit up along the streets.

There were also performances, however, the entrance to the stage was block, not sure if it was restricted to invited VIPs or what.
There were numbers of screens showing the performance live across the street, however both of us were not in the mood to enjoy the performance through the screen.

After one day of walking, we realized that Merlion and Chinatown are within walking distance from Raffles Place, quite near, indeed.
The weather that day was quite good, if you were to walk under the scorching sun, I bet that it would be quite tiring.

Working at Raffles Place is actually quite interesting though, there were so many interesting places and restaurants nearby.

Whereas for Chinatown, honestly, after being to some other Chinatown in other countries, I found that Chinatown in Singapore is really 'China'. It makes you feel like you are in China.
If you are craving for China cuisine, this is the right place.
